2008 Mayor’s Gala Charity Ball

We are truly honoured to be representing the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society.

Tonight, I would like to acknowledge all the various types of leaders, who attend this event, year in and year out. Leadership comes in many forms. There are quiet leaders who simply do the right things for the right reasons.

There are leaders who go about managing with a vision for building a vibrant community. There are leaders in business who recognize, giving back through charity also helps build a community. There are leaders who work in our community that care about it deeply and strive to make it a better place to live and play. There are elected leaders who commit their time and energy into developing policies that ensure a safe and healthy community.

The Mayors Charity Ball is really an event that celebrates all the different types of leaders we have in the City of Surrey. It brings us together to keep focus on our common goals of developing, maintaining and protecting our community.

The Mayor, her worship Dianne Watts and Council in Surrey, exemplify the spirit of leadership. The City of Surrey is truly “Leading the Way” among it’s Metro Vancouver counterparts and is a “model for success” that all cities can look to.

Please join me in acknowledging them. The fire fighters are always pleased to be the beneficiary of the Gala. The proceeds from tonight’s event will allow us to deliver programs to a wide variety of needs within our city.

It is our honour and privilege to serve the City of Surrey as Fire Fighters and as members of this community. The Surrey Fire Fighters thank and salute everyone here tonight as you are all leaders.
