Surrey Firefighters Goodwill Sr. Girls Basketball Classic

Click refresh to view video from start

Since 2001, the Surrey Firefighters have been proud sponsors of the "Goodwill Sr. Girls Basketball Classic" held every January in Surrey’s Secondary high schools. Sixteen teams from Surrey participate in the city invitational where many teams have made it a permanent fixture in their tournament calendar. Many firefighters volunteer their time organizing game schedules, sponsorships and providing BBQ sales with all proceeds supporting the tournament.

In promoting 'Goodwill', the Surrey Firefighters Foundation offers several bursaries in the sum of $500 each year to those who have outstanding volunteer service in their community. Each candidate (senior) applies in writing, along with references and grade transcripts, and is reviewed by the school board and firefighter representatives. As part of our Youth and Education program, it is the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society’s goal to deliver the funds from all donors to the deserving student-athletes of Surrey - we are proud to announce that we have awarded $38,700 in total.

A special thanks to our MVP sponsor, Big Kahuna Sport Company for their continued support to our youth and education program. Since year one, Big Kahuna has donated scholarships and merchandise exceeding $10,000.

The 2007 - 2008 edition of the Goodwill Classic introduced a two division system.

This has received good feedback and has helped grow the tournament in a new direction.

The new multiple location format was also a huge success.

2007: A new page in the tournament history begins

Surrey Firefighters Theresa Snow (left) and Brice Evans (right) took some time to show Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers (clockwise from top left) Koral Fraser, Leah Stowe, Devon Crump and Hanna Pawluk some of the tools of the trade prior to the annual Surrey Firefighters Goodwill Classic senior girls basketball tournament. The Panthers are fourth in B.C.'s AA rankings.

TURNING UP THE HEAT... Fleetwood Park's Tara Long has some tough competition in firefighter Nancy Innes. The Surrey Firefighters are sponsoring a new senior girls hoops tourney in an effort to promote and foster goodwill.
